Occupational Therapy

PreCare is dedicated to providing quality rehabilitation to patients with hand and upper extremity injury or disease. Occupational therapists use therapeutic goal-directed activities that engage the individual's body and mind in meaningful, organized, and self-directed actions to maximize independence, prevent or minimize disability, and maintain health

For our employers with a high incidence of hand and upper extremity injuries, occupational therapists/hand therapists are utilized. Many of our injury prevention services are provided by occupational therapists with an extensive background and certification in ergonomics and return to work programs.

Hand Therapy

Many occupational therapists specialize in the rehabilitation of the hand and upper extremity with extended training and certification. The hand therapist's main goal is to provide care and education that allows the patient to resume their previous lifestyle. Individually designed therapy programs are carefully developed for patients to restore maximum function to the hand and upper extremity.

Hand therapy treatment may include: Stretching and flexibility exercises, therapeutic exercise, functional activities, custom splinting/bracing, dexterity training, strengthening and conditioning, modalities, pain management techniques, body mechanics training, activities of daily living, joint protection and work simplification instruction and RTW job coaching and modifications.

Conditions treated include, but are not limited to, sprains and strains to the hand, wrist, and elbow, arthritis, fractures, peripheral nerve compression injuries, and musculoskeletal disorders related to repetitive motion injuries of the hand and upper extremity.

Occupational Therapist - Ergonomics Specialist

An Occupational Therapist specializing in ergonomics must understand the medical diagnoses and implications of an injury as well as ergonomic principles needed to make changes in work postures, habits, and equipment. Our occupational therapist ergonomic specialists are well versed in ergonomic evaluation, manual material handling issues, and engineering and administrative solutions for employees at risk of injury. Our ergonomics specialists assist the employer and insurance company in returning the employee to work as soon as possible in a safe, work environment. The occupational therapist ergonomic specialist becomes plays an essential role on the safety and health team that includes: Injured worker, supervisor/manager, physician, insurance carrier, facilities manager, safety and loss manager, and human resource.
