Risk Identification

Ergonomics is the dynamic relationship between people, machines, and the work environment. By maintaining a proactive ergonomic program, injury and the related disability and costs are reduced. PreCare specializes in office and materials handling ergonomics. Our clinicians are skilled in evaluating the work environment and specific jobs for risk factors that could result in potential musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs).

By identifying problems early, employers can avoid lost time, absenteeism and minimize the cost of work-related injuries.

Ergonomic Audits

Ergonomic Audits are necessary in determining an appropriate intervention program for your company and its employees. The audit defines a baseline that future data can be compared against. The audit carefully reviews injury data from your OSHA log including: types, frequency and severity of claims, departmental records of claims, body parts affected, and how and when claims occur. The audit assesses the employer's current injury management process related to the prevention of work-related injuries. Once the ergonomic audit report is completed, PreCare meets with management to review employees and work task risk factors. At that time, an outline of recommended solutions is provided.

Functional Job Analysis

A Functional Job Analysis is a valuable tool for the employer in injury prevention and management, as it provides an in-depth documentation of all aspects of a job and the work environment. A PreCare professional determines the essential functions, physical demands, environmental conditions, and other factors necessary for the safe and productive performance of a particular job. A comprehensive Job Analyses is the blueprint used to structure and guide numerous employment and business decisions. It serves as a valuable tool in determining hiring standards, return-to-work requirements, reasonable accommodations, ergonomic modifications, training and education programs, and pre-placement screenings.

Ergonomic Evaluation

Ergonomic Evaluations are generally requested when there is work-related incident reported. Arrangements are made by the PreCare therapist to observe the employee performing work tasks. While assessing the employee work habits and their understanding of their job demands, the therapist provides injury prevention education. Modifications are made to minimize further aggravation of symptoms. Most ergonomic recommendations relate to work habits and employee training. Simple, functional solutions are made to reduce risk factors for injury. A thorough written report outlines observed risk factors, job modifications implemented at the time of the evaluation and recommends solutions that enhance the safety and productivity of the employee.

Ergonomic Assessment

Ergonomic Assessments are ergonomic evaluations which are applied to a specific department or location. Ergo Assessments can be useful in targeting key areas where frequency and severity of injuries have been documented. A PreCare therapist completes an assessment by making observations of employees performing their work tasks. The therapist identifies potential ergonomic risk factors and provides solutions to the department to alleviate or minimize the risk of injury. Interactions with the employees may lead to suggestions to improve body mechanics and/or modify job task performance. A written report is provided to the supervisor of the department documenting observations and recommendations.

Early Intervention Screening

Early Intervention Screening is a tool designed to address early signs and symptoms of MSDs before an injury occurs. Employees are encouraged to request an intervention at the first signs of discomfort. The PreCare therapist observes the employee performing their work tasks and provides feedback to correct specific awkward or repetitive motions. By educating the employee in good body mechanics and work habits, our goal is prevent recurrence of discomfort.
